The 6th International Symposium on the Ocean in a High CO₂ World
Moving from Understanding to Action using Multiple Knowledge Systems
Held in Wellington, New Zealand, at Tākina Convention & Exhibition Centre. Join researchers and other thought leaders from across the globe to explore the impacts of rising CO₂ and help shape future ocean science solutions. Experience Wellington through ecosanctuary tours, SCUBA dives in Taputeranga Marine Reserve, and a wide range of technical workshops.
Ngā Uri o Taranaki Whānui have generously gifted the Symposium's name in recognition of the partnerships that have collectively developed this symposium.
Meet the teams behind the symposium — including the local, international, and early career committees — learn more here.
About the Symposium
Ocean acidification remains a central theme of the symposium series. This edition will also expand to consider other ocean climate impacts, such as ocean warming and deoxygenation, particularly in a multiple-driver context. Research on marine carbon dioxide removal interventions, which are suggested to mitigate climate change and ocean acidification, will also be a key part of the conference.
Themes
- Ocean-based solutions
- Beyond tipping points – translating science to action
- Working across knowledge systems in a high-CO₂ world
- Technological advances in marine climate change research
- Multiple stressors' effects on marine organisms
- Global-driven changes in biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.
- The modulating role of time - from short-term variability to evolution
Workshops, Meetings & Training
